On February 2, a Memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the parties to the Project “Support to Nature Protected Areas in Ukraine” was signed, according to which, the target protected areas will be able to directly obtain the international assistance, previously allocated by the German government in the amount of 14 million euros.

“Ukrainian Carpathians are a special part of Europe, as here large areas of ancient forests, in particular, primeval, are concentrated, some of them are in the UNESCO World Heritage. Therefore, it is our joint European responsibility to keep the Carpathians as they are, and for this purpose the German government has provided a grant. Within the framework of the project, the target parks will receive the necessary transport, uniforms, communication facilities, visiting centers will be built and rangers posts will be improved, as well as a number of other measures to be undertaken to improve their activities “, – said the head of the Implementation Division of Project Implementation Unit Michael Brombacher.

In order for the parks to receive this international assistance, a Memorandum was signed between the project executor (AHT GROUP AG), the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the German Development Bank (KfW) and directors of the target protected areas.

“This is one of the final steps that provides the full functionality of the project. Parks will be able to directly benefit from the project, being registered as recipients of international technical assistance. Immediately after granting this status, the process of large tenders will be launched, in particular, one of the first ones is the purchase of cars “, – said the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Vasyl Poluiko.

The Memorandum will be transferred to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine in order to officially register the target protected areas of the project as recipients.
