This was announced during the session of the Coordination Council of the CBR on May 24, which was attended by 40 people – representatives of governmental institutions, state forestry enterprises and public organizations.
As a Deputy Head of Scientific-Research and Sustainable Development Department Vasyl Pokynchereda notified, the Declaration on Cooperation with 14 local communities of Rakhiv and Tyachiv districts has been signed, a basis of which was the establishment of the transition zone of the CBR. Moreover, partially or completely territories of five state forestry enterprises were also included in this zone. As a result, the streamlining of zoning of Carpathian Biosphere Reserve has been completed and now such zoning fully meets all international standards.
“This process is stimulated by the Ukrainian-German Project “Support to nature protected areas in Ukraine “, – said a conservation officer of the Project Bohdan Prots.
In addition, during the meeting issues which concern the residents of local communities were discussed, including cleaning territories from household garbage, road maintenance, construction of new tourist routes, and a creation of critical elements of local infrastructure etc.
Another important issue that was discussed during the meeting was the expansion of the reserve within Tyachiv district, namely the inclusion of large areas of beech primeval forests to the CBR, which was supported by the majority. As Vasyl Pokynchereda noted, the question of enlargement will be agreed with each community to prevent conflicts of interest in the future.
