The development of a network of bicycle routes, the preservation of embroidered clothing, the arrangement of the territory near the Bukhtivetskyi waterfall, and even a planetarium – 28 winners of the contest of community initiatives, living within or near eight Carpathian protected areas, are starting to implement projects. The competition takes place within the framework of the project “Support to Nature Protected Areas in Ukraine”
The cooperation of local residents with protected areas institutions is crucial in preserving the unique nature of the Carpathians. In order to strengthen such cooperation, a small grants scheme was announced in December of last year within the framework of the SNPA project. Communities living within or near the target areas of the project were invited to participate.
115 projects were submitted. The competition Commission determined the winners of 28 initiatives. The Commission included representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Lviv Regional State Administration, public organizations, and the project. Contracts have already been signed with some of the winners of the competition and the payment of the first tranche for the start of work has begun. The implementation of some projects has been postponed to the spring of 2023.
In 2023, we will announce the second competition of Carpathian community initiatives. Follow the announcements on the project’s Facebook page and on the website www.snpa.in.ua.
